Paintings of Bernardo Bellotto called Canaletto

Bernardo Bellotto (b Venice, 1722; D Warsaw, 1780). Italian townscape painter, the pupil of his uncle, Antonio Canale in Venice. In 1747 he was active in Dresden at the court of Friedrich August II, Elector of Saxony and King of Poland (as August III). In 1748 he became the court painter. Between 1759-61 he worked at the court of Maria Theresa in Vienna and in 1761 in Munich at the court of maximillian III Joseph, Elector of Bavaria. Between 1762-7 he was again in Dresden and from May 1767 at the court of Stanisław August in Warsaw. He borrowed the nickname Canalletto from his uncle.
